According to the report of the Economic Department of the Ministry of Economics of Ukraine, they distributed quotas for wheat and barley export for the period till July 1,2008...

The Government of Ukraine cancelled maize export quotation, substituting it by the automatic licensing in accordance with the requirements of the Law of Ukraine "About the external economic activity". The corresponding resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers No 271 dd. March 28 was signed by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Timoshenko.

According to the Minister of Agrarian Policy Yuriy Melnik, they decided to increase grain export quota and at the same time prolong its validity term since March 1 till July 1, 2008.

As for March 1, 2008, grain stocks in Russia decreased by 6.3% to 23.2 mln tonnes as compared to the analogous period last season.

The Minister of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine Yuriy Melnik positively estimates the rates of the spring sowing campaign and is confident in the execution of the plans to sow spring crops at the area of 15.5 mln ha and receive grain harvest at the level of 40 mln tonnes.
